Hello, I’m Candice Poppy Lee 燕.
I'm a multi-medium creative, investigative journalist and artivist, specializing in telling emotive stories and building worlds.
My main mediums are film, photography, the written word, and most lately generative-AI.
I'm currently part of the AI Lab at Tech in Asia, where we are building an AI-first video news platform. I also co-founded a company @Theedenproject.sg that uses whole foods to heal diseases like eczema. And am a certified agent of change with the International Centre of Missing and Exploited Children.
I believe that the beauty of art and storytelling can change the world. And my life's work is to see holistic well-being restored to every person through gentle advocacy.
What is gentle advocacy?
It is the belief that the gentle beauty of art and stories, can change the world for good.
In one instance, I created a fictional diary written from the pov of the last dying bee on earth, to bring awareness to pollution; in another I conducted a community campaign for rat eradication in my town through open-source logs, graphic letters, and hosting a town tour on national TV.
The advocacy project that impacted me the most, was my documentation of the last 2 weeks of Mr Yap's life inside a hospice. Standing right before the veil of death, I discovered that death could be so peaceful but also complex. We all desire dignity and value until the very end. After the story was launched Mr Yap was sent home from the hospice, making up the <1% possibility of people who defy the death verdict.
